As the artist strokes her brush against the canvas to create her media to appeal to the eye of the most challenging critic, I posture my creativity to capture the most vivid imaging that my talents will allow to produce.
Two of the most self satisfying dimensions for me in this most challenging field of photography are not the images which I burn on paper but those glorious impressions which are embedded in my mind such as when a child grabs my free hand with joy as she browses the end of product of a portrait session, or when a once reluctant husband beams with satisfaction following a once almost feared family beach portrait and departs by presenting me a firm handshake of respect.
The second most enjoyable moment is the initial presentation of my images to a client. Their faces of hesitancy, doubt, and lack of confidence in the appearance captured on film are often followed by silence and tears of excitement and joy. This is when I know the client is more pleased with my efforts.
A priority of mine is to not only create a beautiful photograph of a person but to always endeavor to capture the person within who I am photographing. As I review the pictures which I have taken of my family and children, I always discover myself pondering over the spontaneous images more than I do of the stages poses of my subjects. I search with joy for expressions and body language which are fond reminders of day s gone by. I embrace capturing the soul of my subjects.
